In order to allow opportunities for students to engage in current affairs, issues, and concerns of a local nature, the program of studies provides the flexibility to include these topics within the time allotted for Social Studies.

2. Decision making and problem solving
3. Cooperation and consensus building
4. Social involvement (school or community based projects)
5. Research skills
6. Oral, written and visual literacy (communicating and presenting information)
7. Media literacy (compare info. from print, television, photographs and the Internet)
